Architectural Precast Concrete Panels

Single Wythe Non-Insulated Panels

Single wythe non-insulated precast concrete is a durable, efficient, and versatile wall solution used across commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential construction. Manufactured as one solid section of concrete without an integrated insulation layer, these panels provide the strength, finish quality, and design flexibility that architectural precast is known for, while allowing the overall wall assembly to be coordinated with separate insulation, backup wall, or rainscreen systems where required.

At TKL, single wythe precast panels are produced in a controlled plant environment to ensure consistent quality, dimensional accuracy, finish uniformity, and dependable long-term performance. These panels can be manufactured in a wide range of sizes, shapes, colours, textures, reveals, and custom details to suit both architectural intent and structural requirements.

Single wythe precast is often selected for projects where a clean, durable exterior finish is needed, but insulation is either located elsewhere in the building envelope or not required as part of the precast panel itself. Its simpler construction can also offer advantages in coordination, production, and installation.

Types of Single Wythe Precast Options

Single wythe precast can be produced in several forms depending on the needs of the project.

Architectural cladding panels

These panels are primarily used as exterior façade elements and are designed to deliver the finished appearance of the building. They can incorporate custom colours, exposed aggregate, acid etch, sandblast finishes, reveals, rustications, returns, and other architectural detailing.

Load-bearing wall panels

In some applications, single wythe panels can be designed to carry structural loads in addition to providing the finished wall surface. These are often used in utility buildings, parking structures, industrial facilities, and certain institutional applications.

Shear wall or structural panels

Single wythe precast can also be used where structural performance is a key requirement, with the panel contributing to the building’s lateral or gravity load-resisting system.

Rainscreen panels

These panels can function as part of a ventilated or drained wall assembly, where the precast acts as the exterior protective and architectural layer while insulation and air/vapour barriers are provided behind.

Spandrel panels

Single wythe precast is commonly used at floor edges, between window openings, and in banding conditions to create strong horizontal design features while maintaining a consistent exterior finish.

Column covers and feature panels

Precast can also be used for decorative or accent purposes, including feature walls, entrance elements, freestanding screens, and column enclosures.

Single wythe non-insulated precast is well suited for:

Office buildings

Schools and institutional facilities

Industrial and warehouse buildings

Parking structures

Mixed-use developments

Podiums, mechanical screens, and service enclosures

Decorative site walls and architectural features

Insulation Options

Single wythe precast concrete does not include built-in insulation within the panel itself, but it can be paired with several insulation methods depending on the wall design and performance requirements. Common options include batt insulation within a stud wall backup system, rigid board insulation such as polyisocyanurate, extruded polystyrene, or expanded polystyrene, spray foam insulation applied to the backup wall or interior surface, and mineral wool insulation where added fire resistance and acoustic performance are important.

In some assemblies, a combination of these materials may also be used to achieve the desired thermal performance, moisture control, and overall wall thickness.

For single wythe precast, the insulation is typically installed behind the panel as part of the complete wall assembly, allowing the project team to maintain the durability and appearance of solid precast while still meeting building envelope requirements.
